Arcade, one of the X-Men’s greatest villains, is finally a part of the Marvel Legends action figure collection. And I for one could not be happier with his inclusion into the line! Arcade is in the Super Villains wave with Xemnu as the build-a-figure.
Arcade is a creation of Chris Claremont and John Byrne. He first appeared in Marvel Team-Up #65, where he takes on Spider-Man and Captain Britain in a 2-issue story. From there he is mainly an antagonist to the X-Men, X-Factor and occasionally, Spider-Man. My first introduction to the character was from the video game Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge for the Sega Genesis. Not the best game, but definitely fun for the time.
While Arcade has no superpowers, the character does have genius level I.Q. and is the mastermind of Murderworld. As an assassin for hire, Arcade is paid millions of dollars by other villains to trap and kill Marvel heroes in his amusement park-style death traps. Once Disney’s MCU gets to the X-Men it would be amazing to see a Saw style horror film with Arcade and his Murderworld. The New Mutants movie showed us there is potential for Marvel horror movies. Hopefully the upcoming Moribus movie will be a horror hit.
The figure is pretty straightforward, the standard Hasbro Marvel Legends suit body, injected white PVC with minimal deco. But for Arcade it more than gets the job done. He has his bow tie and very 70s platform shoes, which is a nice touch to make the standout a bit more than just a total reuse of the suit body.. The figure has 2 interchangeable heads, one with shorter hair and a smirk, the other has long hair and a more devilish grin. I will be displaying mine with the more iconic shorter hair. The other accessories included are his cane and one of Xemnu’s legs. Instead of the second head with the longer hair, I think adding a removable boater or skimmer style hat and a set of gloved hands would have really put the figure over the top.
If you are a fan of Marvel villains and/or the X-Men, then I would highly recommend picking up this figure. Let’s be honest, no X-Men collection is complete without Arcade. It is always great when Hasbro adds more obscure characters into the Marvel Legends line, keep them coming! Maybe they can get to the Starjammers next.
I purchased my Arcade figure at Target. Marvel Legends figures are available at https://www.bigbadtoystore.com and https://www.entertainmentearth.com
